So of course, we tried it.

"When I first popped open the cap, I was really excited to try it on because I tend to gravitate more towards darker lipstick shades like purples and deep reds. This one looked like the perfect plum color. After a few coats, I'd say Black Honey was lighter than I expected. It turned out to be less plum and more of a light chestnut red on my lips."

"While I overall liked the final shade after I applied a few coats, it was definitely not as dark as I thought it was going to be, and I usually prefer a darker plum shade of lipstick. I definitely see the appeal of it being a great everyday lipstick, and the shade worked well for my lighter tan skin tone. However, to me, it felt like a very basic lipstick that wore off pretty easily, so I would say $20 might be a little pricey for it."

3. Would you wear it again?:

"I'm someone who prefers a matte lipstick as opposed to lipgloss, so I don't think I would wear Black Honey again simply because of the texture and because the final shade wasn't as dark as I prefer."

"Overall, I liked how compact the lipstick was. It was definitely something I could keep in my pocket or throw in a small purse. However, since the texture of it was closer to lipgloss in my opinion, I probably wouldn't use it as my everyday go-to lipstick."

"When I first took the cap off the lipstick's tube, I thought Black Honey would be very pigmented and shiny when applied — and it was."

"I'm not convinced it lives up to the hype, but I can see why people like it because it seems like it would be a flattering color on a lot of people. Still, I do think that $20 is a bit too much for just sheer lipstick."

3. Would you wear it again?:

"I would definitely wear Black Honey again. If I were to modify it, I'd probably line my lips with a berry shade and then fill in with Black Honey to intensify it and make it last longer."

"Overall, Black Honey is easy to apply, especially because of the tube's shape. Since it's so sheer, it does come off easily, but because of how sheer it is, I would wear it during the day for a more subtle look."

"Black Honey looks intimidatingly dark in the tube, almost brown. I like the packaging a lot though! The packaging feels sleek and modern, even though Clinique is not the trendiest brand."

"I actually bought a tube of Black Honey back in 2017 because it was recommended on the Strategist, so it's funny to me that it's back thanks to TikTok. I remember liking it then, but I think I used it up after a few years — and then the pandemic hit, and my makeup routine went from pretty minimal to nonexistent.

I haven't seen enough people wear it to be 100% sure that it looks good on everyone, but I like it on me! And because it's fairly sheer, it seems like it mostly just builds on your natural lip color, which would make it pretty universal. The $20 price tag also feels fair to me. It might be a few dollars more expensive than some similar products I've bought before, but the packaging feels high-quality, and I think the lipstick will last me a while."

3. Would you wear it again?:

"Totally! I would wear it just by itself as I did in the test, probably at nighttime, even though it's definitely a low-key color. I just don't wear lipstick that often, so anything that's not incredibly neutral feels more like a going-out thing for me personally. And it's buildable, so I think I would apply a few more coats to get a slightly bolder color if I was going out."

"This is 100% my kind of makeup, in that it's hard to mess up and it's easily buildable."

"I thought the lipstick packaging was sleek and to the point — nothing too flashy. When I popped open the cap, I was really excited to try it on because I tend to gravitate more towards darker shades like purples and deep reds. It looked like the perfect plum color."

"Although I'm used to wearing bolder colors on my lips, and this shade was lighter on me than expected, I can't even lie: It looked great on me, too. So shout out to TikTok for always holding me down when it comes to recommendations. Clinique has always been a pretty reliable cosmetics company, and since I found the lipstick to last hours on me, it looked great, and it can be used during the day and night — I would say yes, it's worth the price."

3. Would you wear it again?:

"I'd definitely wear Black Honey again! I'd wear it alone and probably even mix it with some of my other products, like using it as a base for another lipstick or lip gloss."

"This is a great lipstick for both the day and nighttime. I'm a lipstick girl, so you're bound to catch me with color on my lip no matter the time of day. For the daytime, I'd apply a couple of swipes for a light purple tint on my lips, then switch it up for nighttime by applying a few more coats to get the deeper shade of purple that I know and love."

"Unfortunately, I ran out of it, so another purple shade from MAC that I absolutely love is Cyber. It's a dark shade of purple with a satin finish. These have more of a lipstick finish and are darker compared to the balm feel and sheer look of Black Honey."

"When I first saw Black Honey in its tube — I'm not going to lie — I felt intimidated by its extremely dark shade. But after hearing so many great things about it, I knew looks aren't everything and figured the lipstick shade had to be lighter once applied compared to how it appeared."

"I personally think Black Honey lived up to the hype. Lipstick is a very personal thing, especially one in the berry family since it's a shade that could be an acquired taste. But I think Black Honey hit the nail on the head as a berry shade that seems to wear more as neutral on a variety of skintones. $20 is a reasonable price considering I've spent more money on something as basic as a clear gloss."

3. Would you wear it again?:

"Yes! I would most likely pair it with neutral eye makeup and let the berry shade take center stage on my lips. I associate berry lipstick with the fall and winter months, so that's probably when I would whip it out."

"I love the lipstick's hydrating texture, and although it wears off easily, it's one of those lip products that I actually don't mind reapplying throughout the day or night. I have always liked Clinique's products, so I'm happy that the younger generations are shining some light on a brand that's been around forever. Some brands don't create products that cater to different skin tones, so it's nice to see a makeup product — such as lipstick — being something that anyone can reach for, wear, and feel confident in."

"Although Black Honey and my usual lipstick are very different from one another, I really liked how Back Honey looked on, and I think it complimented my olive skin tone. I will definitely be adding it into my lipstick rotation."
